a tale of 3 cats
for somebody that is so fond of cats, must be unusual not to own one. i believe is because i like the idea of free cats.
my cats were always my summer-holiday cats. cats that were eating and catching mice mostly in my grandparents area and they were called “my cats”. i knew all the cats and whom they “belonged” to.

they were free and, just like me, looking for shelter and love at that house, not being caged, but always coming back. those were my grandma’s and grandpa’s cats.
now, about the 3 cats, the story is quite similar.
by mistake, a lady cat (aka the dirty) got caught inside for a couple of days. enough to understand where is the food and, apparently, who is the provider and the not an agressor. she comes regularly from then and begins to get more and more curious about living close to humans. not only she eats. if i don’t make fast moves, she will stay, usually at the door, watching.

for another couple of days, an orange tomcat was patrolling the balcony. a matter of time till he got in, got caught and for one day and a half i open the door to release him (he seems stressed), but he doesn’t go out. probably stays hidden for long hours when he sees humans.
today, though, the dirty came with a friend. obviously not used to me at all, she ran away (towards me and on the balcony, in a sliding course on the floor). but i doubt she will resist to the kitty food smell.
so, i currently “own” 3 cats.

A delightful story, but I have a comment that is important, but isn’t meant to seem like I don’t support what you do. I also love cats, with 3 of my own. They are all outside cats and come and go as they please (I wouldn’t have it any other way). I put food and water outside for them, but it attracted strays (which I wouldn’t necessarily call mine, but I certainly gave them the cutest names imaginable). One of them (the strays) attacked a neighbors cat and I was *almost* held liable for the vet bill. I managed to convince them that the cat definitely wasn’t mine (though they were commonly seen on my porch), but it was a close call. You could be held liable for any cat that you regularly feed, whether or not it is ‘yours’. Once again, I don’t mean to sound like I don’t want you to help stray cats, but be aware of the potential consequences.
